FATCATSFC.COM - WORD FROM THE CHAIRMAN

LESOTHO – A RAVING SUCCESS
11/20/2008 3:28:23 PM

What a trip! What a weekend! I am writing to you having just recovered from our historic tour to the Mountain Kingdom, Lesotho.

We were not disappointed at all. The guys arrived in Lesotho at different times on Friday afternoon and evening, but by 10pm the entire contingent was in the capital, Maseru.

We were treated like kings from day one and there was a buzz around town akin to when international teams with famous playing personnel travel to a foreign country to play an international fixture. The hospitality of the hosts, Vintage FC, was of the highest standard.

Having arrived in the capital some of the guys struggled to find accommodation, but with the assistance of our own Fat Cat Lesotho resident and tour organizer Libetsa Mpesela, this was sorted out in a huff.

The guys then decided to descend on the streets of Lesotho to enjoy the night life there. We were too weary, though, after a hard week and a tiring journey, and we retired to bed just after midnight.

On Saturday the hung over Legends were up in the wee hours of the morning to prepare for the tough encounter against our hosts Vintage FC. The less said about the game, the better, as this was the only lowlight in a highly successful tour.

After the game, played in the boiling heat of the capital, the Legends were treated to breakfast with a difference. We were treated to sheep’s head, a delicacy we rarely get to enjoy on home soil.

Once we had had breakfast we were taken on a tour to the famous Mohale Dam, about 200km outside the capital. We enjoyed the ride up the picturesque route and we were amazed by the beautiful scenery and landscape of the mountainous kingdom, some of the best viewing Africa has to offer.

We then trekked down the mountain and back to Maseru, and a braai / party was awaiting us. We ate, drank litres and litres of the local brew, Maluti, supplied in gallons by the hosts, and partied right into the wee hours of the morning.

We woke up in the state we were in the previous morning, if not worse, and yet again had to be at the grounds for another early day kick off in the sweltering heat, this time against Maseru City Stars. We did a great job of redeeming ourselves by hammering the opposition 5 – 1.

We then refreshed and headed to the Mpesela household where we got to meet the legend’s family. It was a great moment. Mrs. Mpesela was prepared and had cooked lunch for us to have on the road.

We were then ready to take the trip back to Jozi, but before that we purchased the favoured Maluti Lager before we headed back home.

A certain gentlemen, who I shall not mention by name, ran off with the meat prepared by Mrs Mpesela, for the guys. He has yet to give us a plausible explanation for his actions.

We have summoned the gentlemen to a DC hearing next week where he is going to have to account for his actions.

I would like to thank all who participated in the Lesotho adventure, notably our tour orgnanizers, Libetsa and Japhet, our hosts Vintage, with whom we have built a strong relationship, Maseru City Stars, the Mpesela family, and everyone who made the sacrifice of traveling with the Legends to Lesotho. It was certainly worth it!

That is probably it in terms of tours this year, as the focus is fully on the 5th Year Celebrations / Year End Awards on Friday 5th December 2008. We might engage in some friendly games in the province to wind the year down.
