Prodigal son Maxwell Chacha helped Fat Cats FC grab full points at the expense of a lethargic WNR when his single goal separated the two sides during their Diadora Corporate League match at Wendywood High School on Sunday afternoon.
The slender rightback, who has been away from the team's activities for a few weeks owing to his brush with crime - he was hijacked in Rabie Ridge and then two weeks later robbed at gunpoint in Soweto - raced forward in the opening stages of the match to snatch the only goal of the game.
It was not the usual starting XI for Cats as most regular campaigners were not available owing to different personal commitments.
Even coach Dula Mokoena was not in the dugout and his assistant, Lesiba "Spliff" Langa took charge of the team.
But Langa was also "recalled" by wife Keitumetse just ten minutes into the game. Langa then handed the reins over to fellow director Amos "Mezosti" Mananyetso with strict instructions on the game plan and substitutions.
Interestingly, one of the changes that Mananyetso was instructed to effect in the second half was to come on himself to ensure that the three points were firmly in the bag.
Playing in an unfamiliar position as striker, the left-footed Mezosti struggled to get his groove going but once he was firmly in control, only heaven could help the opposing goalkeeper.
Mezosti's only attempt at goal was a bolting right footed shot that almost uprooted the goal posts only to be fumbled by striking partner Lebogang "Giggs" Tlomatsane when it ricocheted back into play.
@ In true Cats tradition, injured goalkeeper Tebogo "16" literally kept the home fires buring when the team was playing.
16 was project manager for the day's braai and the players and management enjoyed his culinary prowess right after the game.
At hand were two tennis rackets and balls that had members of the Cats huffing and puffing in the adjacent court.
